Merit-based scholarships are available for the NEW Masters programme in International Politics at Trinity College Dublin. Trinity’s M.Sc. in International Politics offers graduate students a combination of rigorous training in the study of international politics with a comprehensive empirical approach to understanding many prominent problems in contemporary world politics, especially topics where domestic and international politics cannot be understood in isolation from each other. These topics include democratisation, international cooperation, development and foreign aid, international conflict as well as the politics of many environmental issues and their implications for the politics of developing countries. Students will also receive training in research methods.

Merit-based scholarships are available for the incoming cohort that enters the programme in September 2010. One full-fees scholarship (EU or non-EU fees as relevant to the beneficiary) will be awarded for each Masters programme on offer in the Department. PhD position in International Economics
The successful applicant will work within the project “The effect of international trade on job flows, wages, and unemployment: The role of search frictions and firm heterogeneity”.

This project is funded by the Thyssen Foundation. It is co-directed by Prof. Gabriel Felbermayr at Universität Hohenheim (Stuttgart) and by Prof. Julien Prat at IAE Barcelona. The candidate should hold a
graduate degree (Master or German Diplom) in economics, preferably with a background in trade theory
and/or labor economics. He/she should have good quantitative skills, some training in econometrics, as
well as a good command of English. The successful candidate carries out doctoral research. She/he takes part in an international cooperation between IAE Barcelona and Universität Hohenheim. She/he also benefits from the doctoral program offered by Tübingen-Hohenheim Economics e.V., from a close
integration into the International Economics Group at Universität Hohenheim, and from the support
offered by the FZID Recearch Center.

The successful candidate is based in Stuttgart during academic terms. The monthly stipend is EUR 1500
net of taxes. Additional funds for travel and IT are available. A supplementary assignment as teaching
assistant is possible. The contract runs for an initial period of two years, but is renewable.

The Department of Humanities is delighted to invite applications for 5 MRes English Literature and 5 MRes History Studentships for September 2010. Successful candidates will be awarded a full fee waiver.

The MRes is ideal preparation for students wishing to pursue doctoral studies, careers in professional research or teaching. On completion students will be well prepared to commence work on a PhD and to finish this within three years. In some cases it may be possible to fast-track through a two year PhD programme which builds on the foundations provided by the MRes.

Eligibility :

The Faculty of Business offers two scholarships each academic year (one per semester) for MBA by Coursework commencing international students. Scholarships will be awarded solely on the basis of academic merit. If no applicant

Lund University announces the following vacancy:
POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP in chemistry, within the discipline of chemical physics, with placement at the Department of Chemistry, Division of Chemical Physics , Faculty of Science.

Description: The project is devoted to study energy flow in molecular light harvesting antennas using single molecule spectroscopy (SMS) and fluorescence microscopy techniques. Particularly interesting antennas are J-aggregates – organized ensembles of hundreds of molecules with coherently coupled excited states. SMS makes visible phenomena like fluorescence blinking and fluctuations of other optical property that are not observable in bulk materials due to ensemble-averaging. These phenomena gives us “inside” information on energy redistribution between chromophores and on excited state quenching by generating of “dark” states. With new techniques developed in our group it will be possible to measure geometrical parameters (size, shape etc) of individual nano-antennas and correlate them with energy transport properties.

Qualifications:
Expertise/qualification required from the candidate: master degree in chemistry or physics; strong basic education in general physics, physical chemistry, optics, laser physics, mathematics and quantum mechanics; experience in programming; experience in operation with general electronic equipment (generators, oscilloscopes etc).

Additional expertise: Experience/education in optical/fluorescence microscopy; courses on solid-state physics; computational mathematics and programming; working experince in a laser lab.Regulations concerning appointment as a full PhD student can be found in HF 5 Chap 1-7§§ and SFS 1998:80. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MASTER OF SCIENCE IN FISHERIES/BIODIVERSITY AND RELATED PROGRAMMES

The NEPAD- Southern Africa Network for Bio Sciences (SANBio) is implementing the Finnish- South African Partnership Programme known as “BioFISA” which will enable SANBio to roll out its Business Plan in the SADC region over a period of three years. For effective implementation, the BioFISA Programme is divided into five interlinked components among them is the R & D Projects. The NEPAD/SANBio-Regional Fish Node at Bunda College, University of Malawi is implementing one of the eight R & D priority projects focusing on securing fish biodiversity found in some of the large inland water bodies in Southern Africa.

The NEPAD/SANBio-Fish Node is pleased to announce two scholarships in Fish Genetics available not later than April 2010. The scholarships are tenable at the University of Malawi, Bunda College and the University of Zambia (UNZA) or the Copperbelt University (CBU) in Zambia. Bright young men and women from the SANBio Network Region (Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe) are encouraged to apply for these two year prestigious scholarships.

Obtaining a degree at the Politecnico di Torino

To graduate at the Politecnico di Torino, students must attain a total of 120 credits, including exams and the final dissertation. A plan of studies must be outlined under the guidance of the student’s academic tutor to identify, in relation to the student’s previous academic career, the courses additionally required to complete the program of studies for the Master of Science in which the student is enrolled at the Politecnico di Torino. The time required to graduate is approximately two years. However, the effective duration is also dependent upon each student’s capacity. Note also that the time required for the compulsory Italian course is not considered in the estimated duration of the program.

Please note that scholarship recipients must attend their course for its entire length (2 years – 120 credits). Students who have already attended other university courses can ask for a credit transfer up to a maximum of 10 credits per year (20 credits in total). Please note that credits achieved in preparatory courses or in the first year/second year in systems where preuniversity education lasts 10/11 years can not be taken into account.

The Discipline of Social Statistics and the Centre for Census and Survey Research at the University of Manchester offer an MSc programme in Social Research Methods and Statistics. The programme provides a firm grounding in advanced quantitative methods, taught within an applied social science framework. The programme is designed to be accessible to non-statisticians yet more focussed than most of the existing Masters courses in social research methods. The MSc course offers relevant and marketable skills for a career in research and is recognised for PhD training by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Modules are taught with an emphasis on hands-on training in the application of methods and software. The programme is available full-time over one year or part-time over two years.
Scholarships that will cover the fees of up to three excellent full time (Home/EU) students or of one excellent full time overseas student are currently available. In the case of exceptional applicants, in addition to the fees, and subject to funds being available, we will consider offering a bursary towards living expenses. The fees for full time Home/EU students are £3,500 and for full time overseas students £11,300.
Both Home/EU and overseas students are eligible for these scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential, which will be judged based on academic qualifications and performance and prior experience in social research methods and/or statistics.
