Scholarship Description:

The European Master’s in Transnational Trade Law and Finance (EMTTLF) has been selected by the European Commission among the Erasmus Mundus masters courses for five years. This implies that the Consortium will be able to grant scholarships to highly qualified graduate students to follow the EMTTLF Masters Course.

The European Master in Transnational Trade Law and Finance (EMTTLF) is a flexible, semester-based, international, multi-site Programme that offers:

A formative, problem-oriented, multidisciplinary itinerary with the most advanced competencies of technical and procedural analysis and judicial and economic rationality.

An innovative itinerary in Transnational Trade Law, which aims to develop high level professional competencies and analytical skills, offering a professional and a research track.

Eligibility
Participation in the European Master in Transnational Trade Law and Finance is open to graduate students of Law, Business Administration and related fields and lawyers of all nationalities. Enrolment numbers are limited and admission is based on merit.

Requirements and selection criteria
Admission may be granted to applicants who meet the following criteria:

Candidates must be have completed at least a good level first cycle degree in a discipline related to Law and Business Administration (ILF accepts only Law, Economics or Business Administration graduates).

The Course seeks those who demonstrate a proven interest in issues of Transnational law and finance and/or have related international work experience.

Candidates are required to have a recognized qualification in the languages of instruction of the university that they plan to attend. Applicants will have to enclose the documentation attesting their level of English (TOEFL test results 580* or IELTS 6.5) or French (DELF, DALF or other diploma), if they apply for the Strasbourg Track. Study mobility periods abroad and practical experience in European and/or international organizations and institutions is valued.

Selection criteria include motivation, academic qualifications, languages skills, research experience, and professional experience.

The European Master in Law and Economics Scholarships amount to 21,000 EURO per selected student. Annually, nineteen scholarships for students are available. The European Master in Law and Economics is offered by a consortium of seven universities:

* Erasmus University Rotterdam (co-ordinating institution), * University of Hamburg, * University of Bologna, * University of Gent, * University of Aix-Marseille, * Victoria University of Manchester and * University of Vienna.

The study programme covers one academic year, divided into three terms. The Masters Course is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge in Economic Analysis of Law: the use of economic methods to explain and assess the effects of divergent legal rules.

Since differences between national laws have been at the core of European policy making, the Masters Course offers unique value concerning the EU’s central ambitions. Students on this programme will become competent to work for public organizations and large multinational law firms.

Graduates are also well prepared for Ph.D research in Law and Economics. The language of instruction is English, but the master thesis can also be written in another European language, excluding the student’s mother tongue.

Bohdan Winiarski Scholarships in International Law 2011, Cambridge University, UK

Research Scholarship in International Law Funded by Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London. The Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge is pleased to announce the opening of a competition for two scholarships. The scholarships have been named after the Polish Judge and international lawyer, Bohdan Winiarski. The scholarships are primarily aimed at younger Polish scholars in the early years of their career and are intended to cover a research visit at the Lauterpacht Centre in 2011.

Each scholarship is worth £3000 (GBP) and is intended to cover the cost of bench fees, accommodation, maintenance and travel incurred during an 8-12 week research visit at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. Any additional costs incurred are the responsibility of the candidate. Scholarships must be used during the 2011 calendar year.

Requirements
Bohdan Winiarski Scholarship candidates must comply with the following:

* have Polish citizenship; * be fluent in English; * be graduates of a Polish university (candidates should already hold a degree, applications from students will not be accepted); * be associated with a Polish university or another institution in Poland dealing with international law; * specify a project on some aspect of international law on which they will work while resident at the Lauterpacht Centre. Preferably, the project should be published as a result of the visit; * produce a report of their work in English at the end of the scholarship period.

How to Apply
Applications should consist of the following documents:

* the candidate’s CV (curriculum vitae); * a sufficiently detailed (2-4 page) description of the project they intend to work on whilst at the Centre; * two letters of reference.

What are the objectives of the programme?
The programme is designed to academically qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics and administration according to the principles of Good Governance and to prepare them in a praxis-oriented course for their professional life. The programme offers very good graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) the chance to obtain a Master’s degree in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country. With the knowledge and experience acquired in Germany the scholarship holders should later contribute to the establishment of democratically devised economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions. In addition, the training at German institutions of higher education should especially qualify the scholarship holders as partners in political and economic cooperation with Germany. With this programme, DAAD intends to contribute to the support of Good Governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions.

Target group: Who can apply?
Very well qualified Indonesian graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) who want to actively contribute to the social, political and economic development of their home countries as future leaders. The scholarships are offered both for young graduates without professional experience and for mid-career professionals.

What is fundable?
Scholarships for (generally) two-year Master courses at a German institution of higher education. The successful candidates will study on selected Master courses with one of the following focuses: Development and Governance Public Policy Management in non-profit Organizations Democratic Governance and Society Public Economics, Law, and Politics
The courses have an international orientation and are taught in German or English or bilingual. The scholarship holders will study in groups and be offered special tutoring at their host institutions. Furthermore, there is the possibility of networking-events for participants in different courses and their attendance at tailor-made summer-schools.
All scholarship holders will be placed in German courses for normally 6 months before taking up their Master studies. This also applies to scholarship holders in Master courses taught in English.
DAAD pays a monthly scholarship rate of currently 750 € including the health insurance in Germany. In addition, DAAD grants an appropriate travel allowance as well as a study and research subsidy and in applicable cases rent subsidies and / or family allowances.

Requirements / main selection criteria
In addition to the study results achieved so far, the main criterion for selection is a convincing description of the subject-related and personal motivation for the study project in Germany and the expected benefit after the return to the home country.
For Master courses taught in German or in German and English language, good German knowledge, ideally at completed A 2 level (basic level at Goethe-Institut) at the time of application is an advantage, as the universities generally require good German knowledge. For courses taught in English documented good English knowledge (generally a minimum of 550/80 international TOEFL scores) is required.
The university degree should have been obtained during the last six years before the application for the scholarship. Applicants cannot be considered if they have been in Germany for more than one year at the time of application. All Master courses have further additional requirements that must be fulfilled by the applicants at any case.

The Department of Political Science, Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna, offers a three-year postgraduate program aiming to explore the logic of political contestation in this setting of increasingly interwoven levels of governance.

The students are required to develop and carry out a PhD project on an issue related to the theme of the program. In addition to proposals addressing the multi-level nature of political contestation in contemporary Europe. The comparative projects focusing on politics at either the EU or the domestic levels alone are also accepted.

Eligibility

applicants with Master’s degree in Political Science or other disciplines relevant to the program (degrees should be received by October 2010); excellent command of the English language is essential since the working language of the program is English.

General information:

A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years, and includes teaching obligations equivalent of ½ year’s work (840 work hours).

The scholarships are fully salaried positions, according to the national Danish collective agreement. The scholarship includes the tuition fees, office space, travel grants plus a salary, currently starting with per month app. DKK 23.514 (app. 3,100 euro) up to DKK 28.652 (app. 3,800 euro) depending on seniority, plus a pension contribution totalling 17,1 % of 80 per cent of the base salary.

The salary level and appointment is determined by the Ministry of Finance’s collective agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.

To be considered, the candidate should have a basic training at the Masters level (similar to the 3 + 2 Bologna process). An educational background in the social sciences is necessary. The applicant must have successfully completed the Masters degree before commencing PhD at CBS. The applicants must be fluent in English.

The application (see link below) must include a 5 page project description. This research proposal should contain a presentation of an original research question, a description of the initial theoretical framework and methodology, a presentation of the suggested empirical material as well as a work-plan.

In addition to the research proposal, the application must include the completed application form, copies of a Master’s degree certificate or other certificates of a corresponding level, brief curriculum vitae (CV), a list of papers and publications, and one copy of a selected written work (e.g. Master’s thesis). Applicants must enclose documentation for English language skills. Documentation of GRE and/or GMAT scores is strongly encouraged. For submitting GMAT scores, look up Copenhagen Business School in the GMAC register and choose the PhD Program.

All parts of the application must be submitted in four copies, except the selected written work, which may be submitted in only one copy. Electronic submissions are not accepted.

A committee of experts in the field in question will assess the applications. The assessment of the applicants will be based on the quality and relevance of the project, including an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to accomplish it. Following this assessment, the management of the department will select the winner of the scholarship.
