Ph.D PhD Scholarship in Applied Mathematics

at Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Spain

A PhD position is available at the Laboratory of Computational Methods and Numerical Analysis (LaCàN), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-BarcelonaTech in Barcelona, Spain.

The project is funded by the European Union through the Marie Curie CIG Action and by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya

The PhD fellowship covers the full tuition, a monthly stipend and health insurance.

The project aims at studying mathematical and numerical methods for the coupling of heterogeneous multiphysics problems described by partial differential equations. These problems arise in many practical applications, for example, whenever different phenomena have to be taken into account in two or more subregions of the computational domain or when, for the description and simulation of complex physical phenomena, combinations of hierarchical mathematical models are set up with the aim of reducing the computational complexity. The project focuses on the development, analysis and implementation of effective numerical methods for the simulation of such complex multiphysics problem.

Applicants should hold a master degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a related field. Successful candidates should have a solid background in partial differential equations, a good knowledge of the finite elements method and some experience in computer programming.

Deadline for application: review will begin immediately until the position is filled.

For general inquiries and for application, please use the address marco.discacciati@upc.edu

The application should include a complete CV, the academic records (transcripts), the names of up to three referees and a short statement of purpose (max one page).
