Ph.D PhD Scholarships in Colloid and Surface Chemistry

at Massey University in New Zealand


A fully funded PhD studentship in colloid chemistry is available to commence in January 2015 at Massey University in New Zealand. Dr Catherine Whitby is looking for a talented and motivated PhD student to start a new project investigating the flow and dynamics of complex fluids. The fluids studied will be emulsions and gels that are used in foods and cosmetics. The student will use advanced rheology and microscopy techniques to directly measure particle dynamics in the fluids as they yield and flow. By tuning the surface chemistry of the particles they will explore the origins of the different flow behaviours observed in complex fluids. Our aim is to correlate the microscopic structural changes in emulsions with their bulk flow behaviour. This scholarship is offered once only to one person. Open for applications from November 24, 2014 until February 27, 2015.

Payment Information
The value of this scholarship is NZD22000 (maximum per annum). This award is to be used for research, living expenses and fees. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: Physical chemistry (incl. structural).

This scholarship is for study in New Zealand for those who have achieved Bachelor Degree, Honours 2a or equivalent, or outstanding academic results.
