Further info

Australia is seeing rapid investment by city governments in public Wi-Fi networks but there has been little research conducted on the policy, economic, social and technological aspects of this development. This scholarship provides a unique opportunity for a student with an aptitude for econometric modeling to work on the socio-economic impacts of different internet access technologies, including public Wi-Fi, within urban settings. The research project aims to critically analyze theories that public wireless internet promotes innovation and change, and examine these claims as a rationale for public investment in Wi-Fi. The student will work with economists, technologists and urban studies scholars at RMIT University on a cutting-edge project in an area of national and international importance.
